OPET News - December 2007

OPET members put up an osprey nest platform on a pole during spring 2007 (see photos). So far no birds have moved in to nest, but members hope a mating pair will begin nesting on it this upcoming spring 2008. Also in 2008 the website will have Pond Watchers Reports for Oyster Pond posted and the Zinn Park plant survey by Dr. Mario DeGregorio.

  • About OPET:

In 1994 residents of Oyster Pond's watershed area formed Oyster Pond Environmental Trust, Inc. (OPET) to improve the pond's health. To this end, OPET is dedicated to land conservation in the pond's watershed, to monitoring pond water quality in collaboration with the Falmouth Pond Watcher's Program; to informing and educating the pond's watershed residents and the public at large about the impact of human activity on Oyster Pond; and to working with the Town of Falmouth on a pond management plan that is based on long-term scientific studies of the pond. Sensitive management of both Oyster Pond and Zinn Park, in its watershed, encourages healthy habitats for native wildlife, and ensures that future generations can actively enjoy the recreational benefits of walking trails and a healthy pond.
